Ralph Waldo Emerson III We're sad to report the death of Mr. Emerson, the son of Ralph Waldo Emerson II and Elsie Mae Emerson. The Emersons were the composers of "Down on the Old Party Line," the third and final theme song used on the Lum and Abner radio series. Ralph III was a great friend to the NLAS, and contributed information and photos to our very last printed issue of The Jot 'Em Down Journal (which is still available), the Summer 2007 issue. Mr. Emerson had quite a career in broadcast audio, winning an Emmy Award and developing one of the earliest laugh track systems for live audio sweetening. We have no other information on his death at this time, but wish to offer condolences to the friends and family of Ralph Waldo Emerson III.
45 DIFFERENT BACK ISSUES OF THE JOT 'EM DOWN JOURNAL ARE STILL AVAILABLE - SOME ARE SELLING OUT! Click SALES and find out what is available in our series of Jot 'Em Down Journal printed issues! The pages showing covers and listing contents of the available issues have been completed and are available to view now. Some issues are in very low supply!
Howdy Lum and Abner® fans! If you've been with us a while, you'll notice a change in the appearance of our web site. The "wooden button" navigation has been replaced with a simple system and we're converting to a layout with mostly text in the left column, photos and captions in the right. This should make the site more accessible to our blind members. At the same time, it will help our web master update things more efficiently. He's a little slow and not very smart (are ya, Cedric?) Not all pages have been updated yet, and we appreciate your patience.
Try the navigation above! You're on the HOME page now, of course. LINKS takes you to a page of links relating to additional Lum and Abner® sites as well as those of friends we have connected with. SALES will help you find items we have for sale (check out our back issues of The Jot 'Em Down Journal) to help us pay our web-hosting fees. NEWS will take you to the online version of The Jot 'Em Down Journal where we have recent and archived articles. CONTACT takes you to an e-mail address. COMICS takes you directly to the Lum and Abner comic strip at FirstArkansasNews.net.
A CHANGE: We've removed the link to the "Mail Hack Mail Sack" which was a type of forum. Why? Well, with the Yahoo Lum and Abner group and Facebook being able to offer more immediate chat, there didn't seem to be a need for our page. If you want to read what was archived there, please click here: MAIL HACK

Lum and Abner played the Palace in Cleveland in 1936, with their friend Jerry Hausner as emcee. Jerry played several supporting roles on the radio program and his wife Velma was secretary and assistant to "the boys" for many years. What a show at the Palace!

This is how Lum and Abner® looked in 1956 when their radio show started broadcasting in full color. In fact, they were the only color radio show on the air for many years. NAH! Just checking to see if you were paying attention! Ha!
